Cikande, 21 Maret 2023 – Paint manufacturer PT Mowilex Indonesia (Mowilex) officially announced its newest factory in Cikande, Serang, Banten, with the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and the representatives of the holding company Asia Coatings Enterprises, Pte. Ltd (ACE). The factory is specifically designed with a green building concept to reduce carbon emission by up to 7 percent. This inauguration also celebrates Mowilex’s 53 years in producing premium paint and coatings, and contributing to Indonesia’s development.

Mowilex’s factory in Cikande replaced the existing factory in Daan Mogot, West Jakarta. It combines the latest technologies that significantly reduce environmental impact. The architecture uses skylights that will reduce the use of electricity in lighting and also lower the interior temperature. The double glass technology reduces the needs of air conditioners. The zero-waste water system processes and cleans the water used in production, and the distillate products are reused to irrigate 37% of the factory area. Mowilex also switched from using diesel versions of forklifts to the electric version. In the Cikande factory, Mowilex set up an outdoor laboratorium to support testing and development of the new high quality product.

At the inauguration ceremony, Mowilex also invited Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of BKPM who was represented by the Deputy for Investment Promotion, Nurul Ichwan. At the event, Nurul Ichwan said that the Ministry of BKPM is supporting the innovations of Mowilex in developing its factory with a green factory concept. “With this concept, this company is able to reduce carbon emissions by up to 7%. We hope that this innovation can serve as a reference for other companies in their efforts to achieve zero carbon emissions in Indonesia by 2060.”

With its new factory, Mowilex continues the environmental commitment that began when the company launched the first water-based paint in Indonesia in 1970. Five decades later, Mowilex became the first certified carbon neutral company in Indonesia.

Mowilex has obtained carbon neutral certification four times in a row since 2019. “We are proud that this has a positive impact on reducing carbon consumption. We will ensure that all our activities are always environmentally based to protect consumers. We are a paint manufacturer that no longer uses lead in wood paint and iron since 2019. Through the Mowilex Certainly Safe (Mowilex Pasti Aman) campaign, we ensure that we educate consumers and sellers to sell the latest batch of products without lead,” said Novina Tjahjadi, Director of PT Mowilex Indonesia.

Mowilex takes a holistic approach to environmental, social and governance (ESG) implementation. The recent milestones include the following aspects:

Environment: By investing in balancing and increasing efficiency, Mowilex is exemplifying environmental leadership while helping Indonesia achieve its net zero carbon target by 2060. The company is also working with the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry to plant 50,000 mangrove trees that will protect coastlines and catch carbon.

Social: Since 2018, Mowilex has donated more than 209,000 liters of paint and dedicated 6,665 hours to volunteer work for schools, playgrounds, places of worship, government offices, institutions and community projects. For internal (employees), Mowilex also provides free annual medical tests and health insurance.

Governance: Mowilex has received the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certification and Green Label certification from the Green Product Council Indonesia. The company also obtained ISO 9001 for quality management systems and ISO 14001 for environmental management systems.

Mowilex has achieved an innovative ESG program, as well as local and international recognition, including TOP Brand and Brand Choice awards for exterior paint, interior and wood products.
