Jakarta, Indonesia, July 18, 2023 – Premium paint and coating manufacturer PT Mowilex Indonesia (Mowilex) has received ISO/PAS 45005:2020 certification, as a standard for worker safety and health, especially during a pandemic. The implementation of the standard aims to ensure that every organization or company can manage occupational safety and health (K3) risks and improve company performance. On June 1, 2023, ISO/PAS 45005:2020 certification was officially awarded to Mowilex by BSI Group Indonesia, a provider of certification, inspection, and testing services.

“ISO/PAS 45005:2020 certification and the implementation of an OHS management system are the company’s strategic decisions to ensure the safety of our workers. Not only during the pandemic but also before and after. This is because we prioritize the safety and health of our workers as a form of security guarantee for employees and their families,” said CEO of Mowilex,  Niko Savafi, in Jakarta, on July 18, 2023.

The ISO/PAS 45005:2020 certification is to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic which has the potential to disrupt safety and health so that it can be detrimental to workers and companies. This standard helps the planning of an OSH management system carried out with a risk assessment related to COVID-19. It includes leadership and organizational culture, workforce risk activities and characteristics, work environment, and emergency response plans. “With this risk assessment, Mowilex designed an operational activity plan that supports the implementation of OSH, including evaluation and monitoring,” said Niko.

The ISO/PAS 45005:2020 certification not only emphasizes workers’ physical safety but also psychological health and communication in the OSH management system. Therefore, by implementing ISO/PAS 45005:2020, companies are expected to have a systematic reference for dealing with and adapting to a pandemic. Even though the COVID-19 pandemic has now been declared over, the methodology from ISO/PAS 45005:2020 can still serve as a reference for dealing with potential outbreaks or other infectious diseases in the future. 

For Mowilex, this certification is a form of the company’s commitment to ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all of the employees. This strengthens Mowilex’s leadership in the paint industry, as it became the first company in the manufacturing sector to receive ISO/PAS 45005:2020 certification.

Mowilex’s concern for its employees is also proven by various forms of company policies in terms of work safety. During a pandemic, for example, Mowilex implemented strict and comprehensive health protocols by measuring body temperature before entering the work area, providing masks and hand sanitizer, setting working hours, and implementing physical distancing between employees.

Mowilex is also proactive in preventing and controlling the risk of the spread of COVID-19 by facilitating regular Panbio antigen swab tests for all employees. In order to make employees comfortable, antigen testing takes place at the Mowilex office, not at the hospital. “After all, we always focus on employee safety and health,” explained Niko.
