Museum MACAN Announced Mowilex as the Museum’s Official Paint Partner for 2022
Jakarta, 12 May 2022 – Museum MACAN today announces its collaboration with Mowilex as the museum’s Official Paint Partner.
The partnership with Mowilex was kicked off with the opening of UOB Museum MACAN Children’s Art Space – Theresia Agustina Sitompul: Kembara Biru, in April 2022, in which the entire room was painted using Mowilex’s Deep Blue Sea (2B-5C45) colour to resemble that of a vast blue sky. For POSE, the museum’s latest exhibition which opened on 30 April 2022, the lush golden hue of Olive Hills (9A-3B2) is used for the main exhibition wall, highlighting three paintings by S. Sudjojono.
Aaron Seeto, Director, Museum MACAN said: “How an exhibition is designed is fundamental to how we are able to convey its message. We are extremely proud of this new venture with Mowilex as we share similar values about the power of art and the importance of bringing creativity into our daily lives. Through this partnership, the museum’s exhibition designers and exhibiting artists have access to Mowilex’s range of paint products as well as to their expertise, and this will allow us to continue to experiment with how we design our exhibitions as well as ensuring we continue to present artists’ work within the most optimum environments.”
Anna Yesito Wibowo, Chief Marketing Officer, Mowilex, said: “Mowilex welcomes the exclusive partnership with Museum MACAN as the Official Paint Partner. We acknowledge the usage of interior decorative paint in the museum area is suitable because of the environmentally friendly formula. Mowilex products are water-based and do not contain any harmful metal ingredients. It is made to be very safe, especially for children’s rooms because of the Mowilex zero VOC (Volatile Organic Compound), meaning that there is almost no residue evaporating in the room.”
The partnership announcement coincided with the press walkthrough for POSE and the museum’s partnership announcement with the Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics for the exhibition. POSE is an exhibition which takes the name of a painting by S. Sudjojono from 1975. POSE presents a critical observation of the spectacle of social class, the leisurely pursuits of elites influenced by shifting state power, market connectivity, and consumer culture. Included are a number of historically important works from the collection of Museum Seni Rupa dan Keramik, including Maka lahirlah angkatan 66 (1966) by S. Sudjojono. This work relates to the student protests that occured in 1966, which also marked the birth of the New Order era. As well as Tulisan Putih (1972) by A.D Pirous, one of the winners of the Indonesian painting exhibition in 1974, which was marked by the protest of Desember Hitam (Black December) and the rise of The Indonesian New Art Movement (GSRB).
The exhibition also includes other works from the Museum MACAN Collection by artists who have keenly observed social shifts and societal change, from Japan, China, the United States, and Britain, and presents works by A.D Pirous, Ahmad Sadali, But Muchtar, Damien Hirst, David LaChapelle, I Nyoman Masriadi, Jeff Koons, Keith Haring, Liu Ye, Richard Prince, S. Sudjojono, Srihadi Soedarsono, Takashi Murakami, Tang Zhi Gang, Wang Guangyi, Wang Xin, Yue Minjun, and Yoshitomo Nara.
To support the exhibition, the museum will be rolling out a number of public programs including a talk, storytelling, and a virtual tour. The talk will focus on the lasting legacy of S. Sudjojono on Indonesian contemporary art, while a broader overview of Indonesian modern art history and the role of artists in translating social issues through works of art will be explored during the storytelling session. Museum MACAN will also produce a 360° virtual gallery developed in collaboration with Festivo. This virtual gallery serves as a platform to conduct virtual tours during education engagements with students, educators and school partners, as well as the general public.
POSE is open to the public from 30 April-18 September 2022. Visitors to the museum are required to observe strict protocols and precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all.
The exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics with the support of the Friends of Jakarta Museum Foundation (Yayasan Mitra Museum Jakarta).
