Nasrudin’s family would never believe that their home in Mauk District, Tangerang, Banten Province, built mostly out of bamboo, would be completely destroyed by fire on Wednesday night, August 25. Nasrudin is a factory worker who earns barely enough for his family. Rebuilding after such a sudden loss is burdensome.

Not far from Nasrudin’s home, Duriyat works as a freelance laborer and lives with six other family members in a dilapidated house. To make matters worse, one of the family members was recently laid off due to the ongoing pandemic. Because of the house’s poor condition, they fear that rainfall and heavy winds may cause the house to collapse.

Also living in Mauk District is Agus, a fruit peddler who has lived in his child’s house for the last three years because his own was destroyed by strong winds which affected the region.

Elsewhere in the district is Umi Kulsum, who lives with her husband and child in a derelict house. Basic sanitation, such as a toilet, is lacking. Unsanitary conditions around the house make just living there harmful to their health. Because the house was built without a solid foundation, it could collapse at any moment. It also lacks adequate ventilation and air circulation.

Through Habitat for Humanity Indonesia, a part of the U.S.-based nonprofit Habitat for Humanity International, Mowilex Indonesia donated the funds needed to build decent housing for the four Mauk District residents and their families.

“As the village administrator, we would like to thank Mowilex for helping to build permanent housing for our residents through Habitat [for Humanity],” said Hamilludin, Village Secretary for Kedung Dalem, Mauk District.

“As the recipient of this donation, I also would like to express my gratitude for the help from Mowilex, so that I can now live in a decent house,” said Umi Kulsum.

The donation from Mowilex Indonesia was from the condolence money received when Mowilex Indonesia’s founder, Agus Sasmito, passed away in June.

“Habitat for Humanity is grateful for the donation from Mowilex Indonesia. This donation has moved the Habitat for Humanity team to help these families that are in need of decent housing by building better foundations and sanitation, “ said Habitat for Indonesia Director Susanto, who was present at the final stages of painting the newly-built homes in Mauk District.

In addition to the monetary donation for the construction of the homes, Mowilex Indonesia also donated exterior and interior paints. 

Mowilex Indonesia has received numerous domestic and international awards for CSR. Every year, Mowilex Indonesia has remained committed to making its CSR program part of its corporate strategy. 

Mowilex Indonesia emphasizes Corporate Social Responsibility through its Sustainability Initiative program, where one of its pillars is to give aid to communities in need. Previously, Mowilex Indonesia worked with Yayasan Anne Avantie to build three homes for the elderly in Semarang, Central Java. Mowilex Indonesia has also helped paint hundreds of houses of worship, orphanages, and elderly homes since 1970. Now, in 2021, Mowilex Indonesia has collaborated with Habitat for Humanity to build new homes.

It is with great joy that we can also help and serve our communities,” said Mowilex Indonesia Marketing Director Anna Yesito Wibowo, who was also present at the final stages of painting the homes at Mauk District.
