Mowilex is a premium paint brand that has been manufactured in Indonesia since 1970.  PT Mowilex Indonesia (PT Mowilex) has again held a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program after recently revitalizing Jakarta’s child friendly integrated public spaces (RPTRA).  The company’s latest effort involved a number of stakeholders such as the Dwituna Rawinala Foundation, the East Jakarta Municipal Social Services, the Kramat Jati District local government, as well as Mowilex’s employees.

The company was moved to support equality and diversity in the community, especially for those with disabilities.   To achieve this goal, PT Mowilex has committed to revitalize the only five care facilities in Indonesia for those with multiple disabilities.  These facilities are located in Jakarta, Malang, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Bali. Revitalization for the first home began on July 13, 2019, and the efforts will continue for the following 15 days at the Rawinala home for children with multiple disabilities in East Jakarta.

When asked at the event, Niko Safavi, President Director of PT Mowilex explained that “We decided to use this opportunity to advocate awareness for children with multiple disabilities whose care is far more complex. Data shows that care facilities such as Rawinala are still very limited across Indonesia, especially for those children with multiple disabilities.  We understand that there are over 3.8 million who require special care.”  

Niko Safavi further added “We hope to dispel widespread stereotypes about those with disabilities.  We don’t control how and where we are born, but we can control our actions.  And, small actions can add up to large results over time”.

PT Mowilex donated 500 liters of paint and involved 120 employees who volunteered over 1000 hours to work on the multi-day project, repainting and repairing around 4,000 square meters of walls, window frames, gates, doors, and pedestrian paths.  Roughly 90% of the care facility was repainted.  PT Mowilex’s employees also personally contributed monies to Rawinala.

Also at the event, Chairman of the Dwituna Rawinala Foundation, Dwiharjo Sutarto, said “We are grateful to what PT Mowilex has done for us.  We house 28 children and care for another 35, and our organization operates under continuous resource challenges.” He also thanked the company and its employees for the spirit and warmth brought to the children residing at the care facility.   The children expressed their appreciation through musical performances.

“We hope to inspire the public by showing that with proper care even those with severe disabilities can be productive members of their communities”, said Suratman, who heads the company’s CSR efforts.
