Ubud, May 14, 2019 – Balinese woodcarving comes from the craftmanship, skill and utmost dedication of the woodcarvers who spend decades embedding unique traditional values in each artwork they create. On the ancient time, the best woodcarving pieces were reserved exclusively for decorative elements inside temples and palaces and for artefacts used in religious ceremonies.
Those facts triggered Mowilex to honour and preserve this iconic and, some would say, declining art form. The company made a media workshop with the Maestro, I Made Ada at his workshop, the “Ada Museum” which located at Banjar Pakudui, Kedisan, Tegalalang, Gianyar where a number of fine artworks were created there.
The great man spoke of the folklore and spirituality that informed his work and how Balinese mythology and cultural values come alive in his carvings. “Each artwork is deeply rooted in Balinese philosophy and reveals its own cultural story and history.” Said I Made Ada to the media.
I Made Ada also stressed the need to empower local artists to understand the market and to create opportunity, as many could benefit from some financial guidance and entrepreneurial advice. These carvings have adorned presidential palaces, museums and luxury homes and create a legacy worth preserving, and Mowilex is proud to champion this cause.
Mowilex will launch a photographic and biography book, called “Balinese Woodcarving – A Heritage to Treasure” on June 14 – 16, 2019 at Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA) Gallery. This coffee table book uses striking photography of beautiful artwork to chronic the richness of Bali’s woodcarving tradition.
The launch event will showcase and exhibit 30 of Bali’s finest artists who will share their work, their passion and their inspiration with art lovers, hospitality experts and the media.
“Our company believes that brilliant aesthetics can add economic value,” said Niko Safavi, President Director of Mowilex Indonesia. “We support Bali’s woodcarving industry because these artists capture the philosophy, history and cultural values of the Balinese people. We wish to preserve this for many generations to come.”
“We invite all art, hotel and local business communities and journalist friends in Bali to attend the launch,” said Niko Safavi. “We want to improve Indonesians’ understanding of Balinese woodcarving and popularize these artists worldwide.”
