Tips & Trick

The paint result depends on how good we first prepare the surface. A good preparation will make any painting processes easier and faster, allowing you to enjoy an excellent paint finish and high quality paint in the end.

  • Curing on concrete has to be perfect already (28 days minimum).
  • Check on the wall's humidity.
  • Use protimeter - the tool to measure water's acidity level. The level has to stay under 18%.
  • Check on the wall's alkali level.
  • The alkali's level has to be pH + 8. If higher, then the formula and the wall have not yet been able to be painted immediately. If the water level is low enough, but the alkali is still on its peak, this proves that other cement reaction is still occurred due to a lack of water concentrates. Therefore always make sure that you wipe off the wall surface with clean water.
  • Scrub the wall surface with a rough piece of polisher or brush it with clean water. Wipe it off afterwards with a clean cloth.
  • Clean the wall surface with chloride acid (HCl) 10-15% to neutralize the remaining alkali and to make the wall surface rougher. This will also help establishing a better adhesive power.
  • If the surface has mildews and algae, clean it thoroughly with 10-15% chlorine.

  • If your old paint still obtains good adhesive power, simply wash the surface with clean water while rubbing it with a polisher tool or a clean brush. When necessary, wash it with detergent and wipe it off with clean water.
  • If the old paint has good adhesive power but is contaminated with algae or mildews, make sure to clean it with chlorine, gently rubbing the surface and do not forget to wash it with clean water.
  • If efflorescence occurs, wax or get rid of the residue with a damp cloth.
  • If the old paint surface is thick or flaking, rub thoroughly to the bottom of the wall surface.
  • Get rid of the old paint surface if it was made of low quality paint that blends easily in water.
  • Water-based varnish; non-pigmented paint with 100% acrylic emulsion popularly known as Wall Sealer Water-based. Mowilex produces standard Wall Sealer and Water Proofing Wall Sealer for any surfaces with humidity problems. This Wall Sealer is perfect as filler for small cracks on your new wall surface, and also to strengthen the efflorescent old paint surface.
  • White wall paint with 100% acrylic emulsion, high alkali and adhesive power, as well as anti-mildew; popularly known as Alkali Resisting Primer or Undercoat.
  • Mix paint, following the steps as stated in the factory's printed requirements. Do not exaggerate because this may diminish the function of the Pre-Coat.
  • Apply 1 to 2 layers of Pre-Coat.
  • When using Water Proofing Sealer, remember to keep each layer dry within the whole day.

For best result, here are some steps to be followed:

  • First, make sure that the surface is ready.
  • Cover all of your furnitures (chair, sofa, table, and floor).
  • Arrange all of your necessary utensils (brush, roller, pint can, stir, ladder, etc.)
  • Ask for help from a professional painter.
  • Check on the paint can. Examine the serial batch number carefully.
  • Stir paint until it blends perfectly and mix it with water concentrate as suggested by the factory.
  • It is important that the timeline between each paint layer is sufficient enough. Theoretically between 2 to 4 hours, 8 hours in minimum, or all night long.
  • Make sure that the room's ventilation is working as usual. It is better to paint while the climate is dry and sunny.
  • Do not blend paint inside the can, unless you are planning on using the whole volume. Do not forget to seal the can properly afterwards.
